This is a photo of one of Fall River, Massachusetts first mills built after the turn of the century. After World War I, Fall River had a large population of young children working in the mills. The girl pictured was noted on the back of the photo as being between 11-14yrs old. Most didn't even know their correct age due to language barriers at that time (french canadian & portuguese migrants) and the lack of any education. There was such a high demand for workers due to the production of goods that were shipped out of Fall River on a daily basis. Fall River was a textile giant in America during those times.
